In 2023, Finnish people consumed slightly over four kilos of domestic fish and nearly eight kilos of imported fish per person. The consumption of domestic fish has been converted into fillets while the consumption of imported fish has primarily been calculated on the basis of the product weight.
- The most important domestic species in terms of consumption was farmed rainbow trout (1.5 kilos per person), while of imported fish, farmed salmon was consumed the most (2.4 kilos per person). The consumption of imported salmon was half kilo less than 2022.
- Of wild-caught domestic fish, perch was consumed the most (0.60 kilos per person). It was followed by pike (0.59 kilos), pikeperch (0.40 kilos), European whitefish (0.28 kilos), vendace (0.23 kilos) and Baltic herring (0.20 kilos).
- With regard to the consumption of imported fish products, farmed Norwegian salmon was followed by canned tuna and other tuna products and shrimps and shrimp products.
