Description

The Fish Consumption statistics contain information on the per capita supply of fish for human consumption on the Finnish market.

Content

The statistics present consumption of domestic fish by species in accordance with origin (professional fishing, recreational fishing and fish farming) and consumption of imported fish by species.

Categories

The consumption figures for domestic fish are presented in terms of filleted weight and for imported fish largely in terms of product weight. The consumption figures for imported and domestic fish are thus not fully commensurate.

Data collection and sources

The domestic fish supply is calculated as the sum total of the professional fishing catch, recreational fishing catch and fish farming output in Finland. Exported fish, fish used for feed and discarded fish are deducted from the figures for production by species. Consumption of imported fish is calculated from the amount of fish imported to Finland. Re-exported fish is deducted from imports.

Update frequency

The statistics are published annually.

Preparation and publication schedule

The Fish Consumption statistics are published in November of the year after the statistical year.

Time series

Data is available from the database as from 1999 onwards.
