Estimated area sown to winter crops 2025

Winter sowings 2025 in Finland compared to previous years cultivated area:

• The estimated area sown with winter wheat was 65,000 hectares (-11%).
• The estimated area sown with winter rye was 22,200 hectares (+6%).
• The area sown with winter triticale was 9,800 hectares.
• The area sown with winter barley was 2,200 hectares.
• The area sown with winter rape and-turnip rape was 7,100 hectares.
• The area sown with organic winter rye was 5,800 hectares and organic winter wheat 4,000 hectares.
• Direct seeding was used for 15% of winter wheat, representing 9,800 hectares of the total area sown with winter wheat.
• Direct seeding was used for 8% of winter rye, representing 1,700 hectares of the total area sown with winter rye.

The estimated area sown to winter crops was asked from farms during Luke's crop production survey, covering 5,500 farms. The sown area will be specified next June when sown areas entered by farms in the rural business register of the Finnish Food Authority.
