Estimated area sown to winter crops 2020

• The estimated area sown with winter wheat increased to 55,100 hectares (+125%).
• The estimated area sown with winter rye was 20,200 hectares (+7%).
• The area sown with winter rape and-turnip rape increased to 5,200 hectares (+190%).
• The area sown with organic winter rye was 4,800 hectares and organic winter wheat 2,700 hectares.
• Direct seeding was used for 17% of winter wheat, representing 9,500 hectares of the total area sown with winter wheat.
• Direct seeding was used for 10% of winter rye, representing 1,900 hectares of the total area sown with winter rye.

The estimated area sown to winter crops was asked from farms during Luke's crop production survey, covering 6,200 farms. The sown area will be specified next June when sown areas entered by farms in the rural business register of the Finnish Food Authority.
