Estimated area sown to winter crops 2018

• The estimated area sown with winter wheat increased to 43,700 hectares (+290%).
• The estimated area sown with winter rye increased to 42,100 hectares (+143%).
• The area sown with winter rape and-turnip rape increased to 5,400 hectares (+205%).
• The area sown with organic winter rye was 5,400 hectares and organic winter wheat 3,000 hectares.
• Direct seeding was used for 18% of winter wheat, representing 7,900 hectares of the total area sown with winter wheat.
• Direct seeding was used for 13% of winter rye, representing 5,400 hectares of the total area sown with winter rye.

The estimated area sown to winter crops was asked from farms during Luke's crop production survey, covering 6,200 farms. The sown area will be specified next June when sown areas entered by farms in the rural business register of the Agency for Rural Affairs.  Read more
