Estimated area sown to winter crops 2017

• The estimated area sown with winter wheat decreased to 10,200 hectares (-75%).
• The estimated area sown with winter rye decreased to 21,600 hectares (-34%).
• The area sown with winter rape and-turnip rape decreased to 2,700 hectares (-43%) - was estimated third time in Finland.
• The area sown with organic winter rye was 3,500 hectares and organic winter wheat 0,750 hectares.
• Direct seeding was used for 17% of winter wheat, representing 1,700 hectares of the total area sown with winter wheat.
• Direct seeding was used for 12% of winter rye, representing 2,500 hectares of the total area sown with winter rye.

The estimated area sown to winter crops was asked from farms during Luke's crop production survey, covering 6,200 farms. The sown area will be specified next June when sown areas entered by farms in the rural business register of the Agency for Rural Affairs.  Read more
