Crop Production Statistics and the quality of the grain harvest 2016

In 2016, the grain harvest was 3.6 million tonnes, i.e. 3% lower than in the previous year. The smaller sown area is the main reasons for the second-lowest harvest in the 2000s.

  • Totalling 1.6 million tonnes, the barley harvest corresponded to that of last year – a 1% increase
  • Totalling 1.0 million tonnes, the oats harvest was 6% higher – an increase of 55 000 tonnes
  • Totalling 0.8 million tonnes, the wheat harvest decreased by 17%, i.e. almost 170 000 tonnes
  • Totalling 87 000 tonnes, the rye harvest decreased by 19% – but was still the 4th biggest in the 2000s
  • The potato harvest increased by 9% – still among the lowest of the 2000s
  • The broad bean harvest (40 000 tonnes) was, again, almoust 50% higher year-on-year
