Commercial marine fishery 2015 (provisional)

  • In 2015, the marine catch by fishing vessels registered in Finland totalled 148 million kg.
  • The bulk of catch consisted Baltic herring (131 million kg), followed by sprat (12 million kg).
  • The total catches of herring and sprat remained at the same level as last year, but increased in the south-west sea areas and decreased in the Bothnian sea.
  • The majority of the fishermen fished perch, whitefish, pikeperch, salmon and pike with gill nets or trap nets in the coastal areas. All the catches of the coastal species that are statistically recorded  decreased compared to year 2014.
