The project develops monitoring methods for restored forestry-drained peatlands and plans a new monitoring system for rewetted natural peatlands that have suffered from adjacent drainage. The project examines, how the area impacted by rewetting and restoration can be modeled and monitored with remote sensing and GIS. Used remote sensing data sources include satellite and drone imagery. For rewetted peatlands, ecological and hydrological monitoring methods will be tested. The project is financed by the Ministry of the Environment of Finland and coordinated by Parks & Wildlife Finland.
