Improved pre-harvest planning using modern forest inventory techniques

PRE-FIT

The overall objective was to examine "what is a sufficient level of stand and tree level pre-harvest information and how this information can be acquired cost-efficiently". In addition, during the first implementation year (early steps of the project), the aim was specified to study how forest measurements obtained by a mobile phone by land-owners could improve pre-harvest information using public forest resource data.

Image data sets from mature stands marked for final-cutting using Trestima application acquired by forest companies (Metsä Group, Tornator, Versowood and Stora Enso). Results from simulation studies using auxiliary information for strategies to guide pre-harvest measurements demonstrated and discussed with forest companies.
