The aim of this pilot study is to start together with Norwegian, Russian and Swedish researchers to develop and test the artificial insemination method for reindeer during 2017-2018 in the Kaamanen experimental reindeer field station.
This pilot study produces important knowledge on the questions in what methods the semen samples are best to collect from reindeer males and what are the best ways to handle, freeze and store the sperm samples so that they can be preserved with high quality for using them later in the artifical insemination. This form a basis from which the artificial insemination methods of reindeer will be later developed further.
