Cost efficient and scalable recirculation aquaculture systems and their nutrient cycle

NutriRAS

The objective of the NutriRAS project is to improve the nutrient circulation and utilization from recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) by finding cost-efficient ways to utilize RAS nutrients as fertilizers. This is done by:

a) Investigating the mass and energy balances of RAS to find the possible scalability of the system to biogas plant and nutrient treatment. The objective is to evaluate the economic applicability of integrated RAS biogas plant and a separate biogas plant acquiring RAS sludge, compared to sludge composting at site and use as soil amendment.

b) Investigating the potential non-biological nitrate removal processes for nitrate recovery from RAS effluents.

c) Investigating the cocultivation of L. minor and algae in RAS wastewaters for value added by-products
