In terms of its environmental impact, Finnish cattle production is a better maintainer of security of supply than its reputation, and this should be raised in a fact-based social debate. However, cattle production is not emission-free. Improving operating conditions requires measuring the actual amounts of greenhouse gas emissions. To enhance the efficiency of research, the N-Fiksu investment project will acquire field-specific analysers that measure carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and nitrogen dioxide (N2O) gases in a fast, reliable and cost-effective manner. New-model in-situ measuring devices analyze the concentration of gases directly in the experimental area. The new method is much more functional, accurate and cost-effective than the old method, in which gas samples taken in the field were sent to the laboratory for analysis.
