Mobile and Flexible Industrial Processing of Biomass

-

MOBILE FLIP aims at developing and demonstrating mobile processes for the treatment of underexploited agro- and forest based biomass resources into products and intermediates. The processes will be evaluated in terms of raw material flexibility, as the biomass resources are typically scattered and seasonal. Process concepts have been designed around the key technologies pelletizing, torrefaction, slow pyrolysis, hydrothermal pretreatment and carbonisation

Develop technologies for simple and robust processes that are applicable to small scale. The specific aims of the project are to demonstrate at least three of the following technologies as a mobile unit:
- biomass pre-treatment steps (comminution, drying, fractioning)
- hydrothermal treatment and saccharification
- hydrothermal carbonization
- torrefaction
- slow pyrolysis
- pelletizing and briquetting

In addition, quality and applicability of the end-products will be evaluated.
