FIBRE-GYPSUM: a new soil amendment for fields and water protection

At the Natural Resources Institute of Finland in Jokioinen, the impact of gypsum, pulp and paper mil sludge (fibre) and their mixture mulched into the field on runoff water is being studied (2025-2026). The experiment will be carried out on a 20-plot experimental field, from which 40 cm deep soil rolls will be taken in autumn and spring for rainfall experiments. The concentrations of solids, nutrients and carbon in the water runoff through the soil layer will be compared with the runoff from untreated plots (control). In addition, the effect of fibre and fibre-gypsum mixture on surface runoff will be monitored in the Lintupaju surface runoff test field.
