Status and factors affecting the status are assessed for salmon, sea trout and eel stocks. Alternative management solutions are evaluated against their ability to sustain stocks and fisheries. The most important stock monitoring methods are: catch and fisheries statistics, fish counting from hydroacoustic and underwater video census data, field surveys by specially designed traps and by electrofishing, and analyze of scales, otoliths and other bone structures. Luke collects monitoring data in collaboration with other actors in the field, such as the owners of the fishing rights, fishers and the national fisheries authorities in Finland, Sweden and Norway.
