Luke is obliged to carry out Baltic International Acoustic Survey (ICES-BIAS) for herring and sprat within the remit of Finland in the Baltic Sea (ICES Sub-divisions 29N, 30 and 32N). This survey provides fisheries independent data for stock assessment of Baltic herring and sprat.
The survey is carried out in cooperation with the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE; possessor of R/V Aranda which is used in this survey) and with the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU; participates with personnel and for age determination of herring).
