Climate Smart Research (CSR)

Climate Smart Research (CSR) is a Horizon Europe research and innovation project that connects experimental research stations, scientists, advisors, and agricultural stakeholders across Europe to accelerate the transition toward climate-smart farming. The project aims to generate new knowledge, methodologies, and innovations that support greenhouse gas mitigation, carbon sequestration, climate adaptation, and the long-term resilience of agricultural systems.

CSR uses a large network of Experimental Research Stations across Europe to develop, test, and validate climate-smart farming practices under diverse environmental and production conditions. The project creates harmonized assessment frameworks, open-access datasets, monitoring approaches, and practical decision-support resources to bridge research and agricultural practice. Through collaboration among researchers, farmers, advisors, and policymakers, CSR contributes to the development of effective and scientifically validated pathways toward climate-neutral and resilient agriculture. At LUKE, project activities focus on climate-smart farming practices, soil carbon sequestration, greenhouse gas mitigation, nitrogen management, and the synthesis and dissemination of scientific knowledge for practical implementation.
