The project focuses on enhancing resource monitoring and information production to support decision-making. The change will affect Luke's results-oriented research and authority tasks, as well as the related material production sub-processes, in which data and information derived from it are collected, stored and provided for use by data users. Luke has about 60 authority positions, much of which is resource monitoring. Luke produces information e.g. on the state and development of game, fish and forest resources.
Key elements in the process chain are the development of automation in the processing of large volumes of material produced by experts and citizens, culminating in the production of information to decision-makers and citizens in a transparent and reliable manner. The operating processes are repeated annually.
Automation and the use of artificial intelligence will enhance the processes of data collection and handling, increase cost-effectiveness and at the same time increase and promote the involvement of citizens in monitoring the sustainable use of natural resources. Automation also improves the timeliness and quality of information.
The change concerns the enhancement of Luke's data production and processing in the monitoring produced as authority tasks, but it also has extensive benefits for research. The project focuses on monitoring where the data is currently being utilized or piloted for utilization. These include tracing of migratory fish, monitoring of seals, population assessment of white-tailed deer and large carnivores. The results of the project can be used in several other resource monitoring in the future.
The implementation of the project will enable to respond to information needs in a higher quality, faster and more cost-effective way than before, and it will promote more transparent and reliable information production. In addition to Luke, this is reflected in information-using stakeholders nationally and internationally (e.g. ministries, game and fisheries management, the scientific community, the EU, customer stakeholders) and also in information-producing and information-using citizens.
