The aim of the project is to study the composition and role of endo- and epiphytic microbes (microbiome) in the antifungal properties (resistance to pathogenic fungi) of Sphagnum mosses. Antifungal properties are in a key role when comparing Sphagnum moss based growing media to white horticultural peat or rockwool, since the growth of pathogenic fungi or liverworts are negligible in Sphagnum.

Peer reviewed article of the microbiome and antifungal properties of three common Sphagnum species (S. magellanicum, S. fuscum, S. fallax) on both bog and fen sites.
