Luke is a research organization working to promote the sustainable use of natural resources and the bioeconomy. People in Luke are united by shared values and a desire to do a meaningful work. Working together is one of the strongest cornerstones of Luke as a work community.

- Luke is a multi-professional organization and community of professionals. The input of every Lukean is necessary and valuable for us to produce top research. I am glad that Luke is known and seen as an organization of many possibilities. We will continue to need multidisciplinary expertise in primary production infrastructure experts, laboratory technicians, IT professionals, financial experts and many others, not forgetting researchers, of course, comments Tuija Heikkinen, Luke's Director of Human Resources.

Encouraging atmosphere and teamwork

Working together has also become familiar to Tanja Taupila, who started her internship in Luke in April. Taupila, who had previously studied economics, decided to deepen her skills by also studying to become a forestry engineer. Hobbies and previous work increased Taupila’s interest in the forestry industry, and so Luke felt like a good place to do an internship as part of her studies.

- There is a really encouraging atmosphere in Luke, we work together and we want everyone to succeed, Taupila says.

Taupila's internship includes an assessment of the costs of deforestation, and she will also be able to utilize the results of her work in her future dissertation. Taupila has liked the variety of her work tasks. When making research material, one can work both in the office and in the field, setting up test areas.

- This work is versatile; I can do work both in the field and at the desk. It’s nice when the work isn’t just at the office. My internship at Luke has been very practical and varied, Taupila says.

"I have a feeling I belong to this work community."

Taupila gives praise for the profound orientation and planning of her work assignments. Taupila has kept the balance of work between working independently and working in teams. Coworkers are supportive.

- When I started my internship at Luke, I immediately felt like a welcome and expected co-worker. My job was well thought out and I became a real member of this work community. I have also been given responsibility, and I find the work meaningful. I have a feeling that I belong to this work community, Taupila comments.

"I’ve learned a great deal here for the future."

Taupila also encourages other students to apply for Luke's internships. The timeliness of the work and its focus on future challenges bring challenge and interest to the work.

- Here you can carry out the tasks that you are genuinely interested in and that will take you forward for your future working life! I’ve learned a great deal here for the future, Taupila says.
