A workshop organised by Luke discussed the environmental fate and impacts of pesticides in the northern zone

The Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) brought together Nordic and Baltic experts to discuss the pesticides in Nordic Zone in the three-day workshop 10.-12. September 2024 in Jokioinen, Finland. 

The participants’ expertise ranged from the scientific community, administration to advisory services and education. Experts discussed the latest research on the use of pesticides in agriculture, their residues and effects in the environment and risk indicators and modelling of pesticide fate in Nordic Zone. 

“The event was successful” comments the coordinators of the event Kati Räsänen and Marleena Hagner. Organizers were happy about the event and got very good feedback from the participants. Participants shared new data on topics and networked. A scientific publication that will be produced together will deepen the experts’ knowledge and co-operation in the future which is an important output for all experts working in the field. 

The workshop was organised in Tietotalo, Jokioinen Finland. On the first day, the program focused on the pesticide use and residues in the environment in the Northern zone. After the official program, participants acquainted Elonkierto exhibition park, in Jokioinen. The second day continued the scientific topics diving deeper into residues of pesticides and their effects in the environment. The third day focused on a joint scientific publication concerning the discussed topics prepared by the scientific experts. The publication is planned to be published in 2025.

The event was organised and coordinated by Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) and funded by Luke and the Nordic working group for chemicals, environment, and health under Nordic Council of Ministers for Environment and Health.
