Welcome to Helsinki, Finland

Finland’s capital Helsinki is totally unique combination of quirky urbanity and peaceful nature that gives silence and space to feel more, hear more and experience more.

In this compact city, everything is near. Wherever you travel in Helsinki, you can reach your destination quickly and easily either by walking or by public transportation. Helsinki's naturally beautiful islands are easily reached via ferry connections.

The people in Helsinki are known to be friendly, flexible and innovative. “New Nordic Cuisine” has taken over, and the latest restaurants favour fresh, local and seasonal ingredients.

Discover Helsinki and organise your visit using the MyHelsinki website.

Sustainability in Helsinki

Around 70 % of Helsinki is forests and sea. The tap water is some of the cleanest in the world. Public transport takes you from downtown to nature in minutes. In Helsinki, sustainability can be seen to be just as much about equality as it can be about cycling or allotment gardens, and yes – even sauna!

Helsinki holds once more the first place on the Global Destination Sustainability Index. This is for three years running now, meaning we have been at the top in 2024, 2025 and 2026!

Over 1200 km of cycling routes weave through city parks, forests, and along the seaside.
