Expertise

I study the status, dynamics, and sustainable management of fish populations, with a particular focus on northern and Arctic aquatic ecosystems. My work focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of fisheries management obligations and assessing the impacts of fishing, stocking practices, and environmental change on the viability of fish populations. My research examines the life cycle, behaviour, evolution, and adaptation of migratory fish under changing environmental conditions. My main research interests include brown trout, whitefish, and salmon populations, particularly their genetic diversity, life-history strategies, population structure, and long-term development. A key focus of my work is the monitoring, management, and sustainable use of fish populations in Lake Inari.
