Marja Roslund

I am an environmental scientist with a focus on connections among nature, biodiversity loss, urbanization and human health. I study and develop nature-based solutions that simultaneously promote biodiversity, climate resilience, and human health and well-being. My research focuses particularly on the links between environmental microbiomes, the human microbiome, and planetary health. I lead the Research Council of Finland-funded AI-PlayHealth: A Planetary Health Toolkit for Climate-Resilient Play Spaces Linking Environment, Microbiome, and Child Health -project. The project increases biodiversity in urban daycare playgrounds and investigates how biodiversity interventions affect soil functioning, carbon sequestration, pollution and heat exposure, as well as children’s microbiomes, health and well-being.
