Jyrki Jauhiainen

Specialising in the ecology of wetlands, the utilisation of peatlands, and the impacts of climate change, his research primarily focuses on greenhouse gas emissions, carbon cycling, and solutions for sustainable land use. He possesses extensive research experience across various climatic zones, including boreal, temperate, and tropical regions. His long-term work in Southeast Asia has involved studying tropical peatlands and their significance in mitigating climate change. International projects have examined wetland hydrology, ecosystem services, and the implications of climate change. In his work, he integrates field measurements, modelling, and interdisciplinary collaboration to generate knowledge that supports climate objectives and sustainable resource management. Additionally, his responsibilities include investigating climate change adaptation in agricultural lands, particularly regarding water management in the context of changing precipitation patterns on mineral soils.
