Expertise

My background is in environmental science, and my expertise focuses on mapping of food production by-products and geographic information systems (GIS). The use of by-products is important for nutrient recycling, material efficiency and renewable energy. I play a key role in the development of the Biomass Atlas web service. The service provides data on the location and amount of biomass in Finland. The Biomass Atlas tool is designed to promote the bioeconomy and circular economy. I coordinate Luke's GIS Network, which is a network of spatial data experts working in a network format. Its purpose is to develop and maintain expertise in spatial data methods at Luke and to help find suitable authors for research needs. Research topics: Assessing regional biomass potential. Tasks: processing and improving access to biomass and GIS data. Field of expertise: environmental sciences, utilisation of agricultural side streams and biowaste for nutrient recycling and energy production, spatial data, GIS, spatial data, methods and metadata, data visualisation.
