Digital Innovation Hub for Agriculture

We research and test solutions for the digitalisation of agriculture and the development of autonomous machinery. We collaborate and assist companies in the development and deployment of smart agriculture innovations on a one-stop-shop basis.

Smart Farming Research and Development Platform

The 30 ha Smart Farming test platform (Smart Farming research and development platform) combines the collection and storage of machine and environmental data on arable farming in a common database, throughout all the processes of arable farming. The smart farming data collection equipment include: ISOBUS systems, satellite positioning equipment, weather stations, soilscouts. Modern ISOBUS-compatible machinery and equipment will enable research and testing of smart agriculture.

The collected data can be used for simulation, decision-making and production management research and testing. The Smart Farming research and development platform enables the use of rapidly evolving technologies to make agricultural and food production processes more profitable and productive, and more resource, environment and climate wise. At the same time, it supports the development of new business models and opportunities.

Digital Twin

A Digital Twin model of the fields combining machinery, weather and remote sensing data with a biophysical simulation to support decision making during the growing season has been developed. The model is offered as a service for decision making studies and simulation of treatment outcomes. New sensors can be integrated into the model in research and development projects.

  • File format .csv

Visualisation on a hexagonal grid

  • Data processing
    • The code calculates the coordinates of the machine based on the geometry data.
    • Yield map filtering removes outliers based on yield quantity and weight, and smoothing + filtering with a Gaussian Process model.
  • Hexagon size is around 0,2 ha
  • File format .geojson

Data Space Demo Environment

We also offer data collected from the Smart Farming test platform through data intermediary service. The data-sharing demo service will be used to pilot services in the agricultural data space and demonstrate data licensing and service deployment. Currently, data sharing is done through the Tritom data intermediary service.

Roboverstas

roboverstaan kaksi robottia

Our robotic prototypes, drones, and instrumented machinery provide a framework for versatile research and testing of technology. The operations are designed so that individual and potentially stand-alone technological innovations can be piloted and further developed within a food production environment.

ISOBUS Conformance Testing Services

We help our customers in product development by providing ISOBUS Conformance Test preparation for official testing and other development support in the development of ISOBUS controlled devices and related automation.

What is a Digital Innovation Hub?

DIH - Digital Innovation Hub

Digital Innovation Hubs (DIH) provide services to digitalise business operations on a one-stop-shop basis. DIHs often focus on a particular sector or technology. One of the areas of application is agriculture, and in particular farm businesses.

In Finland, there are several DIHs that develop agriculture, as well as DIHs specialising in specific technologies that also provide services to the agricultural sector.

EDIH - European Digital Innovation Hub

EDIHs act as service hubs to boost digital investment and digitalisation, especially for SMEs. EDIHs offer their expertise on a European scale.

LIH - Location Innovation Hub

The Location Innovation Hub is one of the EDIHs. It is a centre of excellence for location information, coordinated by the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute of the National Land Survey of Finland. Its customers are companies that want to address the challenges of digitalisation and strengthen their competitiveness. Luke is a member of the Location Innovation Hub.
