Description

The egg production statistics contain monthly data on the number of class A and B eggs that have been packed. The statistics are based on data collected quarterly from packging plants.

Data content

Monthly statistics give the weight in kilograms of class A and B eggs that have been packaged at packaging plants. A plant’s egg volume includes both eggs that the plant has produced itself and those purchased directly from farms. Class A eggs are presented by production method: hen house with battery cages, barn hen house, free range hen house and organic poultry farm.

Data collection and sources

The quantities of eggs received by packaging plants are based on data collected quarterly from plants. All egg packaging plants fall under the scope of Luke’s data collection.

Update frequency

Four time a year.

Preparation and publication schedule

Data for egg production in January, February and March is available at the beginning of May, data for April, May and June at the beginning of August, data for July, August and September at the beginning of November, and data for October, November and December at the beginning of February.

Data is available from the 1950s onwards.
