In 2025, a total of 290,000 tons of wood pellets were produced in Finland, which is 10 percent less than the previous year. Alongside domestic production, imports also declined by five percent from the previous year, according to preliminary data from Finnish Customs, while exports remained very low.

  • In 2025, wood pellet production totalled 290,000 tonnes in Finland, down by 10% from the previous year.
  • According to data from Finnish Customs, pellet imports into Finland totalled 203,000 tonnes, representing a five‑percent decrease from the previous year. The three largest countries of origin were Estonia, Sweden, and Lithuania. Imports amounted to 103,000 tonnes from Estonia, 27,000 tonnes from Sweden, and 19,000 tonnes from Lithuania.
  • As in the previous year, wood pellet exports remained very low, totalling only 600 tonnes.
  • The apparent consumption (production + imports - exports) of wood pellets in Finland amounted to 492,000 tonnes (–8%).
  • Deliveries of domestic pellets totalled 271,000 tonnes (–7%). Of this amount, 246,000 tonnes were supplied to heating and power plants as well as large buildings, while 25,000 tonnes were delivered to households and agriculture.

Customs data on the foreign trade of wood pellets are preliminary, and the figures will be finalized in the fall of 2026.
