Wood consumption 2015

  • In 2015, 74.3 million cubic metres of roundwood was consumed in Finland, which was one per cent more than a year earlier and 4 per cent above the average in the previous five-year period.
  • Most of the roundwood, 64.7 million cubic metres (87%), was consumed as raw material in the forest industries. The remaining 9.6 million cubic metres was turned into energy mainly through combustion of fuelwood in small-scale housing (5.4 million m³) and of forest chips manufactured from stemwood (4.2 million m³) in heating and power plants.
  •  A total of 24.4 million cubic metres of forest industry by-products and wood residues were consumed. Of this, 8.9 million cubic metres were used for the production of forest industry products.
