The number of farms continued to decrease in 2024, while the utilized agricultural area remained unchanged.

  • There are a total of 40 871 agricultural and horticultural enterprises in Finland in 2024. The number of farms decreased by 1 400 (3%) from 2023. 
  • The average utilized agricultural area was 56 hectares per farm. 
  • Some 84% of all farms were family-run, 9% were farming syndicates, while farms owned by heirs and limited liability farms represented about 6%.
  • 74% of farms had crop production as their production line, while 20% of farms were classified as livestock farms. Farms of horticulture represented 4%, and the rest of the Finnish farms are mixed farms with no single clear primary production line.
