Statistics database user instructions

Natural Resources Institute Finland's PX-Web statistical database is located at:

http://statdb.luke.fi/PXWeb/pxweb/en/LUKE/

In the statistical database, you can search for information on food and natural resource statistics and create your own tables and figures related to them. The statistics for the three sectors are grouped into their own folders on the statistical database's homepage. The arrangement follows the same logic as in the stat.luke.fi online service. In addition, indicators and other statistical information have their own folders.

Clicking on the headings will open subfolders, which allow the view of the breakdown of statistics in more detail. By clicking on the subheading, you can access a view where the content of the statistics is presented in its entirety.

The image above shows "Egg Production" statistic as an example.

"Search in Statistics database" allows you to search for statistical tables based on the table names.

Creating a table

Clicking on the title of the statistical table opens a view where it is possible to create filtered statistical tables and graphs based on the tables.

"Compact view" feature changes the layout of the selection boxes to a more compact list view.

Example case

In this case, the table "Egg production monthly (kg)" is used as an example. Using filtering, the production volumes of A and B quality class eggs for the year 2025 are searched.

Selections can be made either with the mouse or by using the buttons in the selection box. Once the selections are made, the user presses the "Show table" button. The statistics database then creates a table of the selected variables.

Table footnotes can be viewed at the bottom of the page.

Modifying a table

The table can be formatted in various ways. For example, it can be rotated, its variables can be removed or their order can be changed. Variable values can be summed, and there are several other functions available to meet different user needs.

  • About table” section provides additional information about the table content and the source of the data.
  • “Save result as” can be used to save the table in the desired format to own device. Options include PC-Axis, Excel, HTML, XML, JSON, and JSON-stat file formats.
  • "Table settings" menu allows to select the row information to be displayed (e.g., zero and/or dot rows can be hidden).
With ”API query for this table“ the created table can be connected to another application using the API interface. There is a separate instructions for this.

Creating plots

"Show result as" menu allows you to visually present the table by creating various graphs and plots from it. It is also possible to change the table's presentation format, for example to "Sortable table".

Saving tables and graphs

It is possible to save tables and graphs for later use in various file formats. There are two different ways to do it.

Save result as

The file format can be selected from "Save result as" menu and the table or image can be saved through this. By clicking the "Save" button, the file will be downloaded to the device in the selected format.

Save your query

By clicking on "Save your query", different file and image formats can be selected (e.g. PNG, JPEG, and GIF formats). "Save your query" section also contains a menu where you can change the update settings for the table or image. If the table or image contains a time variable (e.g. year, month, or week), you can choose from the following options:

  • "The rolling start time point" option gives you a time window that updates in time. If the selected time period is, for example, 2000–2025, when the database is updated with the year 2026, the table or image formed by the saved link will be updated to the time period 2001–2026.
  • "The fixed starting time point" option means that when the database table is updated (more recent time data is added to it in addition to the old ones), the start period remains the same, but the new updated periods will also be included in the saved link. If the selected time period is 2000–2025, when the database is updated with the year 2026, the time period in the saved link (table or image) will be updated to 2000–2026.
  • By choosing the “Don’t update the query” option, the table or image formed by the link will not be updated, even if new time periods are added to the database table. In this case, the link will always return the time period 2000–2025 in the above situation.

Once the selections have been made, press "Finish" button. The file will be downloaded to the device and a link will open in the user interface, allowing to return to the created table or graph later.

“Same as shown on screen” format returns the exact same view as defined in PX-Web when clicking on the link.
The link can be forwarded, for example, by email.

Chart settings

The height and width of the image and other settings in the image can be adjusted in "chart settings".
