Foreign trade in agri-food products 2024

The value of agricultural products and food imports was approximately EUR 6.9 billion and the value of exports approximately EUR 2.3 billion in 2024. The value of imports remained unchanged and the value of exports rose by approximately 4 percent from 2023.

• The most important product groups in terms of value were processed foods (28%), beverages and confectionery (14%), fruits, berries and vegetables (11%), and fish and fish products (8.0%). The most important product groups in terms of exports were milk and dairy products (20%), processed foods (19%), beverages and confectionery (11%), and cereals and cereal products (11%).
• The most important import countries were the Netherlands, Germany, and Sweden. Agricultural products and foodstuffs worth a total of approximately EUR 1.1 billion were imported from the Netherlands, mainly various oils and fats, processed foodstuffs, and horticultural plants and their propagation materials. Imports from Germany to Finland amounted to EUR 940 million, consisting of processed foods, beverages, confectionery, and dairy products. Imports from Sweden amounted to EUR 750 million, including processed foods, beverages, fish, and fish products.
• The most important export countries were Sweden, Estonia, and Germany. In 2024, agricultural products and foodstuffs worth over EUR 520 million were exported to Sweden, the most important of which were milk and dairy products, worth approximately EUR 110 million. Exports to Estonia amounted to approximately EUR 230 million and included fish and fish products, alcoholic beverages, coffee, and confectionery. Almost half of the approximately EUR 160 million worth of exports to Germany consisted of oats.
