Description
The statistics gives volumes and value of food fish, fish roe and fish fry production, as well as the number of fish farms and enterprises and natural food pond farmers and quantity of production facilities.
Content
Fish farming production is given by species and area, fish roe production additionally by size class and intended use.
Categories
Edible fish production data is given separately for inland waters and maritime area. The statistics also use a regional division based on the fisheries units of the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment and the Province of Åland. The statistics provide data on fish roe production for stocking and further rearing as well as fish volumes at the end of the year.
Data collection and sources
The aquaculture statistics are an overall study whose population consists of the fish farms in the Aquaculture Register (Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry) at the end of the statistical year. Production information from the fish farmers is collected by a mail questionnaire with an electronic reply option. The Provincial Government of Åland provides the estimate on fish production in Åland. Non-response errors are corrected by statistical methods.
Update frequency
The statistics are published annually.
Preparation and publication schedule
The aquaculture statistics are published by the end of the June following the reporting year. No preliminary data is published.
