• There are about 64,000 farming and horticultural enterprises in Finland. They employ about 125,000 people, which is 30% fewer than in 2000.
• Employees of farming and horticultural enterprises put in an annual total of 70,000 person-years. Compared to 2000, the amount of work carried out has fallen by 13%, that is, by less than the number of employees.
• More work is done on cattle farms than on arable farms, and for those working on cattle farms, agricultural work accounts for a larger proportion of their total personal workloads.
• Women account for 33% of those working for farming and horticultural enterprises, and men for 67%.
• The average age of farmers is 51, which is three years older than in 2000.
• Just under half of all farmers have an agricultural or horticultural education.
• Farms have been in the possession of their current owners for an average of 20 years.
• 80% of farms have the use of computers and the Internet. Of those connected to the Internet, 66% have a fixed broadband connection and 24% a mobile broadband connection.
