Usage of the mobile plant phenotyping device

Research Infrastructures
Advanced imaging capabilities.
Enables diverse phenotyping experiments.
Suitable for various research and industrial sectors.

The plant phenotyping device is mobile and adaptable for imaging plants of different sizes and growth habits. It can be used for research conducted within the Piikkiö research infrastructure or transported to other locations.

It combines RGB, infrared, and chlorophyll fluorescence imaging with research and screening related to plant physiology, photosynthesis, and stress acclimation.

The plant phenotyping device can be used for a wide range of research purposes, such as forest and horticultural research, plant breeding, or studies on pest and disease control. Nurseries, greenhouse growers, and companies involved in post-harvest plant handling and storage can also benefit from analyses performed with the imaging device.

  • Physiological characteristics of plants.
  • Phenotyping experiments.

Target groups

Researchers, research groups, research communities, research networks, research projects, research organizations, companies.

Access type

  • Physical, remote or hybrid access.
  • The plant phenotyping device is mobile and can be used in various facilities together with Luke staff.
  • Minimum reservation duration: 1 day.

Service usage restrictions

  • Importing plant diseases, pests, and GMO plant material into the Piikkiö research infrastructure area is only allowed in accordance with legislation and through separate case-by-case negotiations.
  • Importing harmful invasive species is prohibited, and the import of other non-native species must be agreed upon separately.
  • Use of chemicals must be negotiated separately.
  • Plant health of plant materials brought in from elsewhere must always be verified with plant health certificates.
  • Research must not cause long-term harm or reduce the usability of the research infrastructure after the study period.

Information to support the application

The device is suitable for imaging plants of various sizes and growth habits, so usage must be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
