Access to specialized greenhouses

Research Infrastructures
Two compartments of 72.5 m² each with automatic climate control system.
Suitable for research on GM materials, pathogens, or pests.
Separate facilities for sample processing, drying, and storage (+2°C, -5°C, -20°C), with internal access to laboratory spaces.

The specialized greenhouses allow for seedling cultivation in closed compartments where conditions such as lenght of day, light intensity, humidity, and temperature can be adjusted.

The greenhouses are not connected to outdoor spaces, enabling research involving GMOs, pathogens, and pests. A crushing autoclave is available for the safe disposal of materials, irrigation water, substrates, and containers when needed.

The service includes seedling cultivation, observations and measurements of the material, and sample collection and processing.

Adjacent to the greenhouse compartments is a separate, adaptable sample handling/transplanting area with direct access to Kasvu 1 laboratories and drying/freezing facilities. Kasvu 1 also provides access to liquid nitrogen and -80°C storage for samples.

Sample collection

  • Samples, observations, and measurements from cultivated plants or substrates.
  • Sample drying / freezing.
  • Dry weight determination.

Target groups

Researchers, research groups, research communities, research networks, research projects, research organizations, companies.

Access type

  • Physical, remote or hybrid access.

Service usage restrictions

  • Use of greenhouse compartments may be limited by temperature, humidity, and lighting conditions required by other concurrent cultivations.
  • GMO use must comply with legislation and be negotiated separately; the applicant is responsible for risk assessment and compliance with the Board for Gene Technology (GTLK) guidelines.
  • The same model applies to research involving pathogens and pests.

Information to support the application

  • Describe your research and materials, the required environmental conditions, and the space needed.
  • Also indicate what kind of support or orientation you may require.
