Research Infrastructures
Sustainable development of reindeer husbandry.
Enables research on reindeer feeding, nutrient utilization, behavior, reproduction, genetics, and diseases.
Long-term and extensive background data from the experimental reindeer herd.

The Kutuharju reindeer research platform is located in Inari and offers a unique environment for national and international reindeer research. The platform is suitable for both scientific studies and applied experiments and supports the sustainable development of reindeer husbandry based on evidence-based knowledge.

At the Kutuharju experimental reindeer enclosure, research can be conducted on topics such as feeding practices, effects of different feeds and nutrient use, behavior, reproduction, genetics, physiology, as well as parasites and diseases and their control.

Data for reindeer research has been collected continuously at Kutuharju since 1969, making the platform a unique and valuable resource for the long-term development of reindeer husbandry.

The service includes experimental arrangements carried out by professional staff, equipment according to the experimental design, observation and sample collection during the experiment. Data produced in the experiment will be delivered as agreed.
