The national plant genetic resources programme maintains the genebank of vegetatively propagated cultivated plants. National genetic resources collections are established on fruits and berries, vegetables, herbs and landscaping plants.Plants are being back-up preserved in cryocollections at Luke Haapastensyrjä and Jokioinen sites. Plants that are accepted for long-term conservation represent genetically and regionally diverse material that is well adapted to the Finnish growing conditions. These will be introduced into the cryobank one species at a time as the cryomethods are introduced on a species-by-species basis. The cryocollections serve as a back-up for the field collections.
