Luke recruits 14 new postdoctoral researchers for cutting-edge research
Do you want to take the next step in your scientific career? Are you one of the new creators of a sustainable future? Luke is now hiring seven new postdoctoral researchers.
Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) will hire a total of 14 postdoctoral researchers during 2025–2026 through international recruitment.
The research themes of the postdoctoral researchers emphasise Luke's strategic policies, the objectives of the national R&D separate funding to improve Finland's competitiveness, and the goals of the national bioeconomy strategy to double the value added of the bioeconomy.
There are seven positions available in the current recruitment focusing on aquaculture, forest breeding, modelling of nature-based production systems and value chains, evaluation of bio-based product innovations, management and foresight in natural resource-based business, the availability of industrial and energy raw materials, and disturbances in forest ecosystems.
'We encourage applicants who have a strong motivation to develop as researchers in the thematic areas of this RDI funding. We are building a critical foundation of expertise at Luke and in Finland, which will contribute to enhancing the country's competitiveness, particularly in industries based on renewable natural resources," says Antti Asikainen, Executive Vice President, Research at Luke.
At Luke, a postdoctoral researcher can be a person who completed a doctoral degree no more than five years ago (excl. periods of family leave, military service and non-military service).
The application period for the postdoctoral researcher positions is open 21.10.-8.11. and the call for applications and instructions can be found on the valtiolle.fi website (see the links at the end of this article).
Luke doctoral programme supports the career path of postdoctoral researchers
Postdoctoral researchers are supported by Luke doctoral programme, which coordinates and supports the qualifications of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers working at Luke. We support researchers in their scientific careers, internationalization, and networking, helping them become leading experts in their fields.
One of the key goals of the postdoctoral phase is scientific qualification and independence as a researcher. At Luke, each postdoctoral researcher is assigned a scientific supervisor whose task is to support the younger researcher in their career.
Postdoctoral programme for research institutes bringing sustainable solutions and economic growth to Finland
Luke's postdoctoral recruitments are part of the Postdoctoral programme for research institutes to be implemented in 2025–2028. The programme is one of the measures in the government's multiannual plan for R&D funding. The programme recruits 85 doctoral level researchers to 12 government research institutes. The aim of the programme is to strengthen Finland's RDI expertise in order to develop sustainable solutions and competitiveness in key sectors of society and business. The long-term goal is to boost sustainable economic growth and increase productivity in Finland.
The programme promotes the national and international mobility of postdoctoral researchers and cooperation with research institutes, the public sector and business sector.
Johanna Buchert, President and CEO of Luke, is the director of the Postdoctoral programme for research institutes.
