Description and content

The statistics comprise the annual data on solid wood fuels consumed in heating and power plants. The information are available in solid cubic metres and energy units. Raw materials of forest chips are also presented. The information is used to monitor the consumption of wood fuels and, together with the data on the wood consumption by the forest industries, to monitor the total consumption of wood.

Categories

The information is presented by the type of wood fuel, region (until 2014, by the regional units of the Public Services at the Finnish Forest Centre) and plant type.

Data collection and sources

Information on consumption is collected annually mainly by using a postal questionnaire. Alternatively, heating and power plants can submit the information directly with a web form. For some of the smallest plants, instead of annual inquiries, the information is collected with longer intervals. For the years when information is not collected, the information remains unchanged in the statistics.

Update frequency

The statistics are compiled annually.

Preparation and publication schedule

Statistics are available some five months after the reporting year. Preliminary data are published annually at the end of March.

Time series

Information is available from 2000 onwards.
