Jari Hyväluoma.

Hyväluoma has dedicated his career for research work. Before being appointed as a Research Professor, his most recent position was Principal Research Scientist at Häme University of Applied Sciences. There his tasks included planning, executing and leading research projects, getting funding for projects and in small amount, teaching. Now as a Research Professor, the scale of his tasks will expand.

The appointment was a surprise to Hyväluoma.

To be honest I am surprised that I was chosen for the position. Earlier I have worked at MTT and Luke for 10 years, so in a way this feels like a “homecoming”. It is nice to get to work in a great team, Hyväluoma describes.

As a Research Professor, Hyväluoma’s research targets will focus on the physical structure of the soil, and its effects on the soil processes and quality. However, Hyväluoma has many other interests as well.

– I am interested in modeling water flow in different length scales, especially in the pore scale. Also, I am interested in the organic soil betterment substances’ effects on the soil properties, Hyväluoma says.

Hyväluoma thinks that Luke is the most significant actor on his field in Finland, and he is enthusiastically waiting for collaboration with his most important cooperation partners.

– I expect that together we can make scientifically successful and influential research, and that this new position opens doors for new networks and building new collaborative projects, Hyväluoma says.

Research Professors are in key positions for the scientific expertise and international visibility and effectiveness of Luke. The aim is to ensure top-level research in Luke’s strategic fields, as well as applicability of research in business.
