European Statistical System (ESS): Yes
Description
The statistics give annual information by region on industrial roundwood removals (incl. exports) and from 2016 onwards, also on harvested energy wood. Starting from 2015, data are reported by regions, and before that, by Forestry Board Districts. The information is based on data collected from roundwood buyers and Metsähallitus.
Content
Industrial roundwood removals and energy wood volumes are presented for each region by assortment, by type of sale and by forest ownership category. The measure of reporting is 1000 solid cubic metres over bark.
Categories
The roundwood assortments in the statistics include pine, spruce and hardwood logs as well as pine, spruce and hardwood pulpwood. Energy wood consists of delimbed stems, whole-trees, logging residues and stumps. Previously, up until 2013, only the total of fuelwood was reported. The type of sale separates standing sales, delivery sales and removals in own forests; the last-mentioned covers the forests owned by forest industry companies and the state. There are two ownership categories: non-industrial private forests (NIPF), and forest industries and the state.
Data collection and sources
The information is based on data collected from roundwood buyers and Metsähallitus. Starting from 2016, Forest Management Associations were included in the group of roundwood buyers.
