Nutrient recycling monitoring

The monitoring of nutrient recycling consists of three entities: Indicator for Nutrient Recycling, farm survey on manure management and survey on biogas production. The potential of nutrient-rich biomasses for nutrient recycling and the progress of recycling measures in practice are monitored using data collected from several different sources. Data on manure management is collected via a survey for livestock farms. The survey on biogas production is sent to biogas plant operators to collect data on their activities (conducted in cooperation with Statistics Finland).

Information produced:

  • The progress of nutrient recycling in Finland: how nutrients and organic matter is recycled from potential biomasses to agricultural use as fertilizers and soil improvers.
  • Manure management on livestock farms, including housing technologies and manure storage, processing and application.
  • Feed materials used on biogas plants, biogas and energy production, digestate processing and use.
