Genomic tools for breeding resource-efficiency in strawberry

Cultivar improvements are constantly required to adapt crop production in terms of sustainability, consumer acceptance and environmentally safe production technologies. Strawberry production faces increased risks for leaf and root diseases and stresses. New cultivars with improved resistances and higher root vigour are required. Promising sources of high root system vigour and disease resistances for breeding will be tested and the genomic background of such traits analysed. Strawberry root systems and their structural traits will be analysed for informed selection of resource efficiency.
