The general objective of the project is to combine information on wood properties and quality with quantitative information on forest resources. This is achieved by developing the missing tool, needed for providing information on raw wood quality. The tool improves the operational planning along the wood production and supply chain improving the efficiency of the chain.
Three key research questions are (1) what are the relationships between wood properties and available forest inventory and environmental data, (2) to what extent can those relationships be used to predict wood properties across Finland and (3) what kind of novel tools can be used to make the information on wood quality available for the clients of Luke?

The quality mapping approach provides improved prediction systems to end users. The approach to be developed can be used for assessing the properties of available raw material. The predictions can be integrated with wood supply chain and industrial conversion analysis, but the possibilities for improved industrial planning go far beyond that level.
