-There is a large potential in marine and freshwater resources that can be utilised in a Blue Bioeconomy. -The Council of Ministers have decided that 7 priority projects for 2016-2018 will be financed under the Finnish presidency -The development of a Nordic Road Map for Blue Bioeconomy is one of the projects
1.2. The project aims at: -Intensifying the Nordic cooperation on Blue Bioeconomy and increasing its importance and attractiveness -Identifying the areas for Nordic cooperation in Blue Bioeconomy and mobilising innovation organisations also outside the fisheries sector to gain e.g. biotechnological know-how -Preparing a road map with concrete steps including definition of areas with greatest potential for added value (paths for added value) -Creating Nordic R&D activities and thematic teams and increasing competitiveness in applications for international R&D funding -Identifying and applying policy measures such as smart regulation, deregulation and best practices
2) Implementation The Nordic road map will be developed based on the synthesis report and a workshop. A draft Nordic road map for Blue Bioeconomy will be presented and discussed at a Blue Bioeconomy conference, that will be organised 31.5—1.6.2016 in Helsinki. The road map will be adopted by the Council of Ministers during autumn 2016 and implemented during 2016-2018 through the work of experts within the focus areas as well as workshops and conferences. Emphasis is put on R&D in partnership between innovation organisations and enterprises
3) Results -All Nordic countries/autonomous areas prepare a national study on their Blue Bioeconomy -A synthesis report is prepared on these national studies during winter 2016. -The Nordic road map will be developed based on the synthesis report and a workshop -Blue Bioeconomy conference 31.5—1.6.2016 in Helsinki
4) Impressiveness
Possible paths for added value:
-Converting pelagic biomass to high value products
-Ensuring profitability and growth in large-scale RAS aquaculture
-Mobilising new and competitive raw materials for feed in aquaculture
-Developing commercially viable and innovative high value products from fish and algae (superfood, food ingredients, medicinal and cosmetic products etc.)
-Promoting R&D in biorefinery and biotechnology processes and networks based on aquatic biomasses
5) Customers:
Enterprises, stakeholders, policymakers, research community, endusers and consumers of the blue bioeconomy
