Healthy soil and growing biomass effectively sequester carbon and nutrients, but the land use sector also produces emissions to air, soil and water. The land use sector has an important role to play in mitigating climate change and halting the deterioration of the aquatic environment, which is further accelerated by land use and primary production. The challenge for the programme is to address the global climate crisis and its ecosystem impacts.
The programme provides solutions to:
- ecologically, socially and economically sustainable climate change mitigation in the land use sector,
- Management of water impacts in the Baltic Sea catchment area.
