The focus of this application is to strengthen pre-breeding cooperation as outlined in previous PPP-projects, validate available germplasm resources by genetic and phenotypic characterization in order to make a wider choice for crossings aimed at increasing diversity for targeted traits. By use of external genetic experts we will start the process to integrate modern genetic tools to the breeding programs.
The first target is to make panels of cultivars that represent the variation and use these as a basis for genomic selection and further pre-breeding efforts
